MTM's Colorful Audi RS3 Sportback Packs a Mighty Punch, Audi RS3 MTM Sportback revealed

The German tuner MTM has just released some details about its new creation, the Audi RS3 Sportback, which now coms with an aggressive exterior color (or colors in this case), along with an impressive powerboost which places the high performance hatchback in the sports car segment.

The firm's most recent project concerns the Audi RS3 Sportback that is normally powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five generating 340-horses and 450 Nm (331 lb-ft) of torque, which are good for a 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) acceleration time of 4.6 seconds and a limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph).

MTM offers buyers a choice of three engine packages, the first of which includes a modified ECU that lifts output to 410HP and 550Nm (406 lb-ft). The second stage kit adds a downpipe together with a new intercooler and exhaust system that helps up power to 424HP and 560Nm (413 lb-ft).

Finally, the most extreme option is the Stage 3 kit that brings in a new turbocharger pushing output to 472HP and 600Nm (443 lb-ft).

Other available choices include the removal of the speed limiter, exterior and interior bits along with bespoke paint jobs like the one seen here and MTM's own alloy wheel designs.

The German tuner says that the upgrade costs 8.200 euros while the installation has been priced at 1.428 euros, so for just under 10k you will get an unique and powerful kit for your Audi RS3, which comes with its own warranty.

168,000 VW Jetta, VW Golf and Audi A3 Diesel Models Recalled in the U.S. Amidst Fire Concerns

The Volkswagen Group of America issued a voluntary safety recall on 159,884 diesel-powered VW Jetta and Jetta SportWagens manufactured from May 2008 through September 2011, and Golf models built from May 2009 through September 2011, and nearly 9,000 Audi A3 diesel models made from September 2009 through September 2011.
All the aforementioned vehicles are equipped with the German group's 2.0-liter TDi diesel engine. The company said that certain vibrations could potentially result in a fuel line cracking. The defect could cause a fuel leak, which in the presence of an ignition source may lead to a fire.

Volkswagen issued a statement saying that up until now, it is not aware of any "fire, crash or injury" caused by this issue.

To fix the problem VW and Audi will install an improved fuel injector line for the number 2 cylinder as well as dampers on all of the injector lines. The company said it expects to begin the safety recall in the beginning of November.

Last we heard about the next chapter in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise, the Dark Knight Rises was filming in Pittsburgh where we got a glimpse of the Batwing as well as Catwoman (played by Anne Hathaway) riding around in a futuristic looking motorcycle.
Now new footage has emerged on Youtube, this time from the Los Angeles shoot out.

There’s a reason many shows and magazines test cars in southern California, and this is it. When you have just one day alone with a $393,695 supercar that has a top speed of 217 mph you don’t want Mother Nature spoiling the fun. But she’s alive and well in the Northeast.
Good thing then that this is no ordinary Lamborghini, but the most technologically advanced car the company has ever made. All-wheel-drive was the key to survival in the conditions that we faced, but merely the icing on a many-layered cake.

The clean-sheet Aventador is built around a lightweight carbon fiber tub that Lamborghini designed with help from Boeing. Aluminum subframes bolted to the front and rear of it carry the bits that make the Aventador go, including the all-new 690 hp 6.5-liter V12 engine and a racecar-style pushrod suspension featuring horizontal shocks and springs attached to the center of the car. We’re told they’re there for optimal weight distribution, but more likely because it looks so cool.
All of this wonderful stuff is draped in bodywork that, in white, gives the classic Lamborghini wedge a skeletal look. Enormous side air intakes are flanked by sharp, slender elements top and bottom, while the jagged façade apes the open jaws of a vampire’s skull.
No car on the road today can command a scene like this one. The Ferrari 458 Italia may be the vehicular equivalent of Giselle Bundchen, and the Bugatti Veyron a 21st Century tribute to Art Nouveau, but parked next to the Aventador they are simply rolling stock.
Besides, neither of them have scissors doors.
Enter the frameless ones on the Aventador -- still not a whole lot of fun to do -- and you’ll find an interior that is much roomier and more ergonomic than big Lambos of the past. The cabin design is more understated than the exterior, but incorporates a fighter plane-inspired center console that stands out from the rest of its leather-upholstered, tailored-in-Milan duds. A few toggles, a couple of knobs and some buttons offer the kind of intuitive simplicity one needs when driving a car at the speeds that this one is capable of.
Despite having what appears to be a traditional analog tachometer front and center, it and the rest of the instrument cluster is fully digital. So it’s a bit of a surprise that the infotainment system is one of sister company Audi’s tired old units and not the latest version seen in the new A6, a car that costs about a tenth of what this one does. If it sounds like I’m nitpicking, I’m not. Unlike cupholders, which the Aventador graciously does without, the ability to seek out new roads far from civilization is very handy in a car like this, and it should be done with as much style as possible.
The start button is protected by a red cover, as if it is responsible for arming missiles or something deadly…which it sort of is. Flip it open, press the button and the engine comes to life with a superfluous rev as if clearing its throat.
The Aventador’s seven-speed robotized manual transmission offers three modes: Strada, Sport and Corsa. The last one is Italian for “track,” so you’ll want to choose that now.
You can count the number of true production cars that can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds on one hand without using your thumb, and this is one of them. Even in the middle of a downpour, the grip afforded by the Aventador’s all-wheel drive system is indomitable and the car takes off like a projectile fired by a railgun, without even a suggestion of wheelspin.
Stay on it, run the engine near its lofty 8,250 rpm redline, pull the large right shift paddle and feel the shockwave that is an angry Aventador changing gears. Lamborghini chose a single-clutch transmission instead of one of the seamless double-clutch units popular today because they involve the word “seamless.” Violenza is the appropriate term here.
Shifts take just 50 milliseconds, but the afterglow lasts much longer than that…like a week. Sadly, when you’re off the racing circuit and trundling around town on the club circuit the transmission lurches quite a bit.

Back on the track approaching turn one, you work through the endorphin rush brought on by the 12-part aria behind your head and slam hard on the carbon ceramic brakes. The pedal is softer than you might expect, but press through it and the stopping power on the other side is immense.
Crank the wheel and the all-wheel-drive system does its thing to fight the slick surface and keep all 3470 pounds of exotic material heading where you want it. Steering is direct, and the car neutral through whatever curveballs the evil gods of blacktop throw at it. At this point, grins are aplenty.
Even before you reach the threshold of the stability control system, the Aventador is astonishingly easy to control for something with a larger footprint than many family cars. When the electronic aids do join in, they don’t announce themselves with a flourish, just slip through the back door and unobtrusively go to work.
Faster down the straight and the rear wing emerges from the trailing edge of the car, indicating good things to come. But with puddles ahead deeper than the sidewalls of the 20-series Pirelli P-Zeros behind, thoughts of mortality and personal debt act as an effective governor.
Thankfully, this is one of the rare cars today that feels fast even when it isn’t going fast. Every bit of the road is communicated to the driver, and a couple of downshifts turns up the volume on demand. The stereo has no rear speakers. It doesn’t need them.
The Aventador speaks for itself.

The Joy of Six - Nissan 100SX V8

Slap bang in the middle of the North Pacific Ocean is a spot where this V8-engined Nissan 200SX would be right at home. Originally built with a turbocharged four-pot engine, this Japanese coupe has been given an all-American push rod V8 heart by UK firm Apex Performance Parts. The result is effortless speed, impeccable reliability and an incredible grin factor from that V8 noise.

Bren Simpson, CEO of Apex Performance is no stranger to Japanese tuned machine. Apex thoroughly tested each part: the company grew rapidly through 200SX enthusiasts, the burner of the type of business like. So why the change to V8 power? Well, the story is a long one, but essentially it boils down to reliability and cost. This was the seed that eventually grew into the V8 200SX you see here. Bren found an engine and gearbox in America from a 2006 Pontiac GTO with just 18k miles on the clock. The moment it arrived, the whole package was installed by Gary Hay ward at AP-Tuning. Bren provided Gary with a 'Sikky' conversion kit from the States for the job, which consisted of all the engine and gearbox mounts and the propshaft. With Gary's spanner wielding expertise, the car soon fired up. Only the transmission tunnel needed very gentle persuasion. However, like so many of Apex's products, this was only the start of the journey.

Bren adds, "This was always intended to be our test mule for the V8 conversions, which we are now offering on our V8Apcx.com website." The car was running within weeks. This was at the start of 2009, and for the rest of the year and throughout 2010, the car has been undergoing changes. The aim has always been to keep this a comfortable road car - a daily driver for both Bren and his wife Ann, and their expanding family.

Yet it has still claimed the scalp of stripped-out competition cars. It has a minimal but MSA-approved roll cage, kill switch and a plumbed-in fire extinguisher, so it was able to enter competitive events. It finished second in a hillclimb at Prescott Hill organized by the SX Owners' Club. It also consistently finished above midfield in the Time Attack Club Challenge. Even a last-minute decision to let Apex drifter Kieran Cameron drive it in a round of the FJ)C at Knockhill resulted in a podium finish. Quite remarkable for a daily-driven car with a bogstandard engine!

Actually there was a moment of EDC event, held at a small lump on the front end and the beginning of custom widebody conversion. The car had bows ABW range of designs, but they were smart adapted by Richard at RT organs. It has a Tomei 2.2ltr forged engine and will run a large T78 turbocharger. The Chevy V8 is simply another option for our customers - once you've experienced one and done the sums, the conversion makes perfect sense." You can't put a price on happiness, but after three years Bren has no plans to sell this car. It still puts a smile on his face every time he turns the key and hears that 6.0ltr V8 roar into life. The joy of six indeed!

BMW UK Sells Two Millionth Vehicle in Britain 31 Years after it Officially Entered the Market

Some 31 years after it officially opened shop in the British market, BMW UK Ltd has sold its two millionth vehicle, a 530d Gran Turismo. Coincidentally, the company's first car sold in the UK on January 1, 1980, was also a 5-Series, albeit an E12 M535i saloon.

I run an engineering business under my own name and being able to have a luxury car that allows for large items in the boot is the perfect combination.” Wolverhampton said, explaining why he chose the 5 Series GT.

It won't be long before the 5-Series marks another milestone for BMW as the Bavarian firm has already sold 5,839,866 units worldwide since the mid-size model's launch in 1972.

2012 Volkswagen Golf R with 256-Ponies Priced from $33,900* in the U.S.

We've known about Volkswagen's plans to sell the hot Golf R in the States for a while now, but today, the German carmaker released pricing details on the heir to the 2004 and 2008 Golf R32 models, which will go on sale early next year.

The most powerful VW hatch sold on this side of the Atlantic will be offered in both three- and five-door body styles with prices starting from $33,900 *plus destination. Models equipped with sunroof and navigation will carry MSRPs of $35,490 (two-door) and $36,090 (four-door), not including destination and handling fees.

While the older Golf R32 models made use of 3.2-liter VR6 engines, the new 'R' hides a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under its hood. In the States, it is rated at 256 horsepower (a 6HP increase over the VR6 fitted into the 2008 R32) and 243 lb-ft.

The N.A.-spec Golf R will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than six seconds with its top speed limited at 130mph (209km/h). For reference, the European model that is rated at 270HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft), completes the 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in 5.7 seconds (5.5" with the DSG) and has a limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph).

The German company said it expects the Golf R to return an estimated fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway compared with EPA estimated mileage of 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway for the 2008 Golf R32.

Power is transferred to all four wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox and VW's 4Motion system with a Haldex clutch pack that continuously varies the amount of torque sent to the rear axle.

The Golf R also features a beefed up suspension and new vented 13.6-inch-diameter front and 12.2-inch rear discs (up from the GTI’s 12.3-inch-diameter vented front and 10.7-inch solid rear discs), along with 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 225/40 all-season performance tires.

Visually, the flagship Golf stands out from its more modest GTI sibling thanks to a new body kit that includes a more aggressively styled front bumper incorporating LED daytime running lights, and a new rear bumper with a diffuser and central-mounted tail pipes, plus a gloss black finish for the mirrors and brake calipers.

The R is available in five colors: Rising Blue, Candy White, Carbon Steel Gray, Black, and Tornado Red.

On the inside, there are "R" logos on the side sills, the new bucket seats, the shifter knob and the squared off sports steering wheel, plus blue pointers for the instruments.

Standard features across the range include Bi-Xenon headlights; dual-zone Climatronic air conditioning; cruise control; leather seating surfaces; aluminum pedals; Bluetooth technology and an speaker sound system with an in-dash six-CD changer, and more usefully for the...21st century, an auxiliary input jack along with an iPod adapter.

2012 Volkswagen Golf R Confirmed for U.S. - Car News

A few days ago, we told you it was all but confirmed, and now we have the official word: Volkswagen will sell in Europe, so far only Golf R to our shores in 2012. The company says the decision was taken in response to "request the VW enthusiasts," who apparently can not live without golf performance.

Golf R in three and five door configurations are offered, and a true manual gearbox is the only transmission choice (the Europeans choose to DSG.) If the car uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder 4MOTION all-wheel drive and receive bigger brakes and firmer suspension than the current GTI. In Europe, the engine 270 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque to the U.S. model has not been confirmed, but expect no major changes.

The hatch lifts her brothers, thanks to the Golf GTI and a central dual exhaust, sexy 18-inch wheels and a custom body kit. Interior accouterment includes a steering wheel, shifter and cut specifically for golf R. No pricing information available yet, but considering the car's spiritual predecessors, the 250-hp R32, buyers withdrew $ 33640, an expected price in the mid $ 30K range.

U SPY: New 2013 Porsche Boxster Spotted Cruising in Los Angeles, porsche boxster review, porsche boxster 2011, 2012 porsche boxster

Even though you have more chances to spot a prototype model of a future Porsche model doing the rounds at the Nürburgring racetrack than anywhere else, the Germans try out their cars in many countries around the world, including of course, the U.S.
Fastcarinworld.Com reader Alex Ranarivelo snapped this lightly camouflaged 2013 Porsche Boxster with Michigan license plates rolling around in Los Angeles.

Understandably, he was only able to take a quick picture of the two-seater roadster model from behind – though judging from Porsche's past and previous spy shots, don't expect any revolutionary changes to the Boxster's design.

But while the styling of the Mk3 Boxster may not raise any eyebrows, the possibility of a new four-cylinder engine will surely come as a surprise.

Official details remain slim, but there's an increasing number of reports suggesting that Porsche is currently developing a horizontally opposed four-cylinder unit with turbocharging and direct injection technologies that will be available with a displacement of 2.0-liters or less.

If it turns out to be true, the same engine will also be offered on the replacement of the Cayman coupe.

We’ve seen it running at the Nürburgring; now we’ve caught the 2013 Porsche Boxster Prototype testing stateside. Spotted in heavy LA traffic, these two disguised Boxsters show subtle but significant differences from the current car. More shapely and aggressive bodywork at the rear is apparent, along with a new taillight design. Also notable, the decklid has gone from two pieces (with a panel each for the convertible top and the trunk) to a clean, single piece of sheet metal. We’ll look forward to seeing how the new design integrates with the convertible top. The front of the car shows some 911 influence, with bigger vents and shorter overhangs, but I had a tough time getting a shot of the nose from my moving motorcycle…might have had something to do with my thick gloves! If this new 2013 Porsche Boxster does not make a surprise debut at the Frankfurt show in September, perhaps we’ll see it on the stand at Geneva early next year.

We were hoping to see the new BMW M6 at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show, but apparently, the Bavarian company has other plans for the presentation of its flagship two-door model that will be offered in both coupe and convertible derivatives.
Following recent pictures of the 2012 M6 Coupe, our spy shooters came up close and personal with a right-hand drive cabriolet model while testing in Europe.

The prototype has shed much of its camouflage with only parts of the front- and rear-ends along with the lower side panels featuring BMW's trademark swirly stickers.

You can tell it's an M6 from the modified bumpers, the massive multipsoke alloy wheels that hide equally large cross-drilled brakes and of course, the typical 'M' quad tail pipes.

Like its M5-brethren, the M6 will be motivated by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8, believed to produce the same output as it does in the sedan with 560HP and 680Nm (502 lb-ft). All those ponies will be transferred to the rear wheels through a standard dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox, while there also a possibility BMW may offer a three-pedal manual option for select markets such as the U.S.

Ginetta Unveils New G60 Sports Car Powered by a Mustang-Sourced V6

Last week Ginetta announced that it would soon unveil a new 310HP sports car with a carbon fibre body. Well, we have to admit the little British car company has kept its promise by launching the G60, the first mid-engine model in its range since the G32 in 1989.
The only thing the new G60 shares with its predecessor is the engine layout. The G60 boasts carbonfibre tub and body based on that of the Farbio GTS, which itself is based on the 2002 Farboud GT.

Ginetta, which last March acquired Farbio, has redesigned the car with the focus being on reducing its weight. Apart from its carbonfibre construction, Ginetta’s new model has no steering assistance, servo-assisted brakes, ABS or electronic stability control systems. As a result, it tips the scales at just 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs) or 400 kg (881 pounds) less than the GTS.

The naturally-aspirated 3.7-liter V6 comes is sourced from the Ford Mustang and is rated at 310HP. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a Quaife limited-slip differential, while the suspension uses wishbones on all four corners.

Although 310HP is nothing to brag about in today’s sports car arena, the low weight allows the G60 to achieve a sub-4.0 seconds 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint time and a top speed in excees of 165mph (265 km/h).

Moreover, the G60 will be more exclusive than most rivals, since Ginetta plans on manufacturing just 50 units.

LED Technology In The Modern Automobile

I was reading an article in a motoring magazine on the dramatic development of the LED and the impact it is having on modern automotive design.

One of the topics of discussion was the wake up call it is giving to the automotive industry. One very influential demonstration was at a motor show that had the release of the Jaguar C-XF and while this would not be the first show car to have LED's it was considered one of the most dramatic.

The debut was at the Frankfurt Motor Show and used LED's to provide a very dramatic visual presentation. The display was kicked off by the press of the Jaguars start button.

First was an impressive display, some would say 'explosion', of blue lighting that began with the instrument panel, then flew around the cabin, combining after encompassing the rear seats. Along with this was a burst of more blue projecting itself down from the interior roof lining, at the same time the grille suddenly burst into life with a glow of LED lighting, very impressive.

And to finish the flash of feline impressions (well it is a Jaguar) the headlights had streaks of blue bisecting each of the rectangular elements.

Another leading example of LED technology in the automobile is the Audi R8. If you see one in the daytime you will notice daytime running lights under the main headlights, these are LED lamps. But don't think it stops there as the Audi R8's complete headlamp assembly, including the turn flashers, and the main and dipped beams are LED's.

The LED first made its mark in the automobile at the rear of the automobile. The 3157 LED and its derivatives found favor with the engineers as brake lamps as they reach full intensity faster than the traditional incandescent bulb. They are now used in many car tail lamps.

And some companies have taken this to the next level. BMW has some that increase in brightness as greater pressure is applied to the brake pedal. Mercedes Benz have the brake lights pulsing rapidly when the automobile is braking heavily.

Technology is allowing today's automobile manufacturers to provide many entertainment and other computer based systems that have the potential to load up the cars power supply. So any device that can assist in reducing the energy consumption has suddenly become very attractive.

This is one of the key drivers that has lifted the LED to the top of the automotive lighting wish list.

This energy saving is not the only driver as one of the other benefits is the life of the bulb. The LED's will outlive the automobiles to which they have been fitted. The owner will never have to replace a light bulb again.

Some of the other benefits include the ability to 'tune' the light so that the light emitted is closer to daylight. Also for automotive designers the constraints on shapes disappear as they are extremely flexible in the shapes that can be achieved. Also the heat generated is a lot less so lightweight plastics hi strength plastics can be used.

Another excellent use of the light emitting diode in the automobile application is the humble traffic light, a brilliant application that ensures we have robust lighting for years to come.
