Liability insurance

The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is all set to enter the racing arena. The 2012 version has undergone extensive modifications. The difference in the car's exterior is easily noticeable. The designers have made these changes
to improve the performance and aerodynamics.

Forty-eight mm has been added to the width of the car and it has been built to comply with A.C.O. 'LM' GTE regulations.

Performance

The car is fitted with a six cylinder 'Boxer' engine and has a capacity of four liters. To comply with the mandatory GTE regulations, the car has been fitted with an air restrictor. The engine generates a power of 460 HP. It is a rear wheel drive.

The gear box is the Porsche sequential 6 speed gearbox and it is operated by steering wheel paddle shifts. The high performance engine, coupled with the efficient gearbox makes it a car to reckon with on the racing circuit.

Exterior Aerodynamics

Porsche is carrying out extensive testing on this model. The company announced that the company's testing programs on various race tracks around the world are proceeding in full swing and they were fully satisfied with the technical parameters and performance of the car.

Availability

The company will start delivery of the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR to customers from January 2012 onwards. The car is ready to take on the competition in the long, grueling race competitions such as Le Mans, FIA World Endurance, and International GT Open as well as other international racing events. Fans are eagerly awaiting its debut and most experts have predicted it will be a front runner.

2012 Shelby GT 50th Anniversary Edition

Shelby America is celebrating 50 years of style by producing 100 cars of 3 famous Mustang variants: the GTS, the GT350 and the GT500 (the Super Snake). Fifty models of each car will be decked in white and feature gold stripes, the other fifty will be black and feature gold stripes.

Since only 300 are being manufactured, the 50th Anniversary editions have become an instant collector's item and each represent a piece of automotive history. This would be the perfect car to take out for a ride (and leave your blog writing up to Article Writing Services).

Exterior & Interior

In addition to the gold stripes on the exterior, several other nods to the 50th anniversary are present in the interior of the cars. However, many additional upgrades are available including superchargers that will boost the performance but the 2012 Shelby GT 50th Anniversary Edition vehicles are all built to perform extremely well as they are.

Living With the McLaren MP4-12C

The McLaren MP4-12C packs 600 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. It goes 0-124 mph in 9.1 seconds and then onto a top speed of 206 mph. It’s the little brother of the famed McLaren F1, a car that is perhaps one of the top 5 performance automobiles ever built. Therefore when McLaren decided to build the MP4-12C they knew that they had some serious shoes to fill. However where the F1 was on the verge of being a pure race car, the MP4-12C was designed to be a pure sports car that could be used on a daily basis. Mazda CX-5 targets Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4

The new Mazda CX-5 will challenge the likes of the Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4 and Nissan X-Trail to become one of Australia’s best-selling SUVs, says the Japanese car maker.

Mazda has this week launched the all-new CX-5, a vehicle that replaces the CX-7 and a model it says will achieve about 12,000 annual sales.

The CX-7 ironically had its best sales month in January, placing second to the RAV4, but Mazda believes the CX-5 – slightly smaller but still a five-seater – will be a consistently stronger performer.

“[Our sales forecast] should have us challenging for a top three spot in the segment,” Mazda Australia’s marketing boss Alistair Doak said. “When you look at it, the CX-5 is more in the [market] sweet spot [compared to CX-7].

“We also had only a four-model range with CX-7 whereas with CX-5 10 different models will be offered.”

The Mazda CX-5 also starts at a lower pricing point than the CX-7. Where the CX-7 kicked off at $33,990 for a front-wheel-drive Classic variant, the Mazda CX-5 is available from $27,800 – for a front-drive, manual petrol edition.

The rest of the Mazda CX-5 range comprises automatic transmission only variants, split into FWD and AWD, diesel and petrol engines, and three trim levels – Maxx, Maxx Sport and Grand Touring.

A CX-5 all-wheel-drive starts at $32,300, diesel versions start at $39,040, and the line-up tops out with the flagship CX-5 Grand Touring diesel AWD that asks $46,200 before on-road costs are added.

The Mazda CX-5 range is available from March, with diesel variants arriving late in the month.

The Grand Touring is the only trim level for now available with a $1990 Tech Pack option that includes blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and headlights that can switch automatically between high and main beam.

Mazda says it would consider offering the safety technology features for other trim levels if there was customer demand, and argues the CX-5 is already a fundamentally safe vehicle with the inclusion of six airbags, stability and traction control, and hill start assist.

The Mazda CX-5 is the first of the Japanese brand’s models to feature the new ‘Kodo’ design language as well as the first vehicle to be built from the ground up using the fundamentals of Mazda’s suite of Skyactiv construction and drivetrain technologies aimed at improving efficiency.

The SUV sits on an all-new platform and at 4540mm is 153mm shorter than the CX-7, with a 50mm-shorter wheelbase, at 2700mm.

Mazda says better packaging – helped by a less steeply raked windscreen than the CX-7 – improves cabin space despite the overall smaller dimensions.

The CX-5’s body is also stronger yet lighter, with the FWD petrol CX-5 114kg lighter than the equivalent CX-7 and the diesel auto CX-5 an impressive 243kg lighter than the diesel manual CX-7 (not auto was available for the latter model).

The new ‘Skyactiv-D’ diesel is a 2.2-litre turbo unit that offers 129kW of power and 420Nm of torque, with fuel consumption of 5.7 litres per 100km and CO2 emissions of 149g/km. It’s mated to a new six-speed auto as standard.

Mazda quotes a 0-100km/h time of 9.4 seconds for the diesel, identical to the claimed figure for the FWD manual petrol CX-5.

The ‘Skyactiv-G’ 2.0-litre petrol has already been in action locally in the Mazda3 SP20 Skyactiv model.

In the CX-5 it produces 114kW (113kW for AWD) and 200Nm (198Nm AWD), with the front-drive model using 6.4L/100km (149g/km emissions) and the 70kg-heavier all-wheel-drive variant sipping 6.9L/100km (160g/km).

Both engines feature ‘i-stop’, Mazda’s engine stop-start technology.

The entry-level Maxx is only available with the petrol engine, with both engine choices available for Maxx Sport and Grand Touring.

Standard features for all models include reverse-view camera, Bluetooth with audio streaming, keyless engine start, cruise control and hill-start assist.

Mazda CX-5 Maxx Sport and Grand Touring models come with an integrated TomTom satellite navigation system, 40:20:40 split rear seats, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlights and leather-wrapped steering wheel, gearlever and handbrake.

The flagship Grand Touring adds 19-inch alloys (compared to 17-inch steels for Maxx, 18-inch alloys for Maxx Sport), daytime running lights, bi-xenon headlights, electric sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry, eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with heating, and a 231kW Bose audio.

Mazda says the Maxx will account for the majority of sales, at 40 per cent, with the remaining 60 per cent an even split between Maxx Sport and Grand Touring.

Seventy per cent of buyers will opt for the petrol engine and 65 per cent of customers will choose AWD rather than FWD.

As reported last year by CarAdvice, Mazda Australia has taken the decision to replace the CX-7 with the CX-5 despite the former model continuing production and availability in some other markets.

Mazda Australia says the CX-7 is in run-out – helping to explain its excellent January sales result – and that all remaining stock is only with dealers now.

The CX-5 will be classified as a ‘medium sized SUV’ by the official industry sales statistics, VFACTS, after a categorisation reshuffle to accommodate true compact SUVs such as the Mitsubishi ASX and Skoda Yeti.

The Mazda CX-9, launched in 2007, continues as the brand’s seven-seater SUV option.

CarAdvice has also learned exclusively that Mazda is planning an even smaller SUV, potentially to be called the CX-3.

Mazda's new CX-5 midsized SUV is now on sale in Australia, kicking off at $27,800 (plus on-roads) and replacing the hugely popular CX-7.

Born from the Kodo design language first previewed by the sleek Shinari showcar, the CX-5 was later teased by the near production-ready Minagi concept.

As the first model to wear the carmaker's new styling, and the first to utilise the full range of its new SkyActiv engine, transmission and construction technologies, the CX-5 has more than a little riding on its shoulders.

Although the 5 in its moniker suggested the new SUV would enter Mazda's line-up beneath the CX-7, it is just 100mm shorter than the 7, a mere 30mm narrower and rides on a wheelbase only 50mm shorter.

Their comparable size is made most obvious by the CX-5's rear legroom: 72mm greater than in its 'larger' predecessor.

The CX-5's marginally smaller dimensions reflect the continuing trend for downsizing and, technologically, it is certainly a leap forward when compared to the outgoing CX-7.

Mechanical Package

Mazda's new medium SUV arrives with a pair of the carmaker's new SkyActiv engines - petrol and diesel - along with manual and automatic transmissions, and front- and all-wheel-drive configurations.

SkyActiv-G Petrol

In petrol form, the CX-5 is driven by Mazda's direct-injected 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G engine - the same that drives the recently-launched Mazda3 SP20 variant.

In front-wheel-drive form, the engine delivers 114kW at 6000rpm, and 200Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Output drops slightly in all-wheel-drive form, to 113kW and 198Nm.

With both manual and automatic transmissions, fuel consumption is listed at 6.4 l/100km in FWD form, and 6.9 l/100km with the AWD, which is available with automatic only.

Carbon emissions are listed at a low 149g/km (FWD manual), 148g/km (FWD auto) and 160g/km (AWD auto).

SkyActiv-D Diesel

Available with the all-wheel-drive model only, the 2.2 litre SkyActiv-D common-rail diesel engine delivers 129kW at 4500rpm and 420Nm at 2000rpm.

Fitted with the six-speed automatic transmission - the only option here - fuel consumption is listed at 5.7 l/100km and carbon emissions at 149g/km.


Transmissions

Two transmissions are offered with the CX-5.

The SkyActiv-MT six-speed manual transmission is offered with the SkyActiv-G petrol models, in front-wheel-drive form only.

The SkyActiv-Drive unit is a six-speed automatic with an extra wide lock-up range clutch. It is offered with both the petrol and diesel variants, but in all-wheel-drive form only.

Its arrival with the CX-5 also marks the first time Mazda has offered an automatic-equipped diesel in Australia.

Construction

Last year, Mazda claimed a manufacturing first, announcing the development of vehicle components using 1800 MPa ultra-high tensile steel.

The CX-5 is the first of the brand's new models to benefit from the process, as part of its new SkyActiv technology suite.

To develop the new materials and manufacturing processes, Mazda teamed up with Sumitomo Metal Industries and Futaba Kogyo Corporation.

In the CX-5, the super-strong, super-light steel will be used to produce the damage-mitigating bumper beams that fit behind the front and rear bumpers.

The new beams are 20 percent stronger and 4.8kg lighter than previous versions, the latter helping to improve performance and responsiveness.

Mazda says the new beams also represent a breakthrough in energy absorption: while stronger materials are less pliant, the unique design of the new SkyActiv technology has helped to overcome this.

Features

The CX-5 range debuts with three familiar trim grades: the entry-level Maxx, the mid-range Maxx Sport and the top-shelf Grand Touring.

Maxx

Priced from $27,800, the CX-5 Maxx is offered with the SkyActiv-G petrol engine, both transmissions and both the front- and all-wheel-drive layouts.

Features include air-conditioning, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, remote central locking, push-button start, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, trip computer, tyre pressure monitoring, Bluetooth handsfree and audio streaming, USB connectivity, four speakers, wheel-mounted audio controls.

It is also fitted with 17-inch steel wheels on 225/65 tyres, and a rear spoiler is standard

Maxx Sport

The Maxx Sport is priced from $33,200 and is available with both the petrol and diesel engines, along with the six-speed auto and both the front- and all-wheel-drive layouts.

Features include all of those offered with the Maxx, along with auto-on/off headlamps, dual-zone climate control, six-speaker audio, leather wrapped gear shift knob, handbrake and steering wheel, rain sensing wipers, front fog lamps, satellite navigation, rear seats with 40/20/40 flat-folding backrests, and centre fold-down armrest.

It is also fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels and 225/65 tyres.

Grand Touring

The CX-5 Grand Touring is priced from $43,200 and is offered with the diesel engine only, along with the six-speed auto and all-wheel-drive.

Features include all of the above equipment, along with Bi-Xenon headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System, daytime running lamps, power sliding and tilt glass sunroof, rear view mirror with auto dimming function, leather seat trim, driver’s seat with eight-way power adjustment and power lumbar support, heated front seats, smart keyless entry, Bose 231watt amplifier with nine speakers, and parking sensors front and rear.

Safety features standard across the CX-5 range include front, side and curtain airbags, Anti-lock Braking System, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Emergency Brake Assist, Emergency Brake-force Distribution, Hill Launch Assist, Emergency Stop Signal, whiplash minimising front seats, and a reversing camera.

The Grand Touring gets 19-inch alloy wheels on 225/55 tyres.

Tech Pack Option

Available with the Grand Touring only, the $1990 Tech Pack adds Blind Spot Monitoring system, High-Beam Control system and Lane Departure Warning system.
