1,000,000th Milestone for Chrysler’s Pentastar V6

Only 18 months have passed since its production began and Chrysler managed to hit its first major milestone with the manufacturing of the 1,000,000th new Pentastar V6.

The engine, which is also produced at Chrysler’s plant in Saltillo, Mexico, can be found in the Chrysler 200, 300, Town and Country, the Dodge Avenger, Durango, Charger, Challenger, Caravan and the 2012 Jeep Wrangler.

China Gets Ready to Receive the New Beetle

The cute Volkswagen Beetle is ready to touch the Chinese ground. As it is already in other world markets, time has come to make a headline for the Chinese market too. The new Beetle was highly appreciated by China’s customers, when it was presented in 2011 at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The car will be listed in February on the China car market. The first engines are 1.2TSI, 1.4TSI and 1.8TSI, and the price will vary between 200.000 yuan and 330.000 yuan. The car will be sold by VW’s Imported Range dealerships (separate from FAW-VW and SH-VW dealerships).

“We want to avoid the almost total lack of rollout planning that the former New Beetle suffered. That car had a couple of pretty good years and then it fell dramatically. We want to keep offering new things that are significant this time around so as to keep the car fresh,” said VW global branding boss Luca De Meo.

“The Beetle is so much sportier now. It’s much more appealing to male buyers as well,” said a source in Wolfsburg. Although the car appeals to both male and female customers, it is believed that the Chinese women will find the vehicle more suitable for them. They will have 12 exterior colors to choose from.

Last year, we had quite an adventure while testing the T5 VW Multivan and this vehicle found a way into our hearts. Thus, we are happy to find out that VW has found a new way of bringing more units of it to the world, as the company’s Commercial Vehicles arm is starting assembly of the van in Indonesia for the local market.

Together with importer Garuda Mataram Motor, VW is debuting assembly of Semi Knocked Down (SKD) vehicles for the local market, with the first step being scheduled to bring about 1,200 Transporters and Multivans to the market.

Indomobil/Garuda Mataram Motor is known to be a reliable partner for Volkswagen and Audi for several years already. “We are very pleased that this successful and trusted partner is now also assembling our models for this growth-oriented market. This ensures the product quality which Volkswagen customers are accustomed to, and which they expect from a premium product like the T5,” said Jens Ocksen, Member of the Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for Production.

About 220 T5 units are planned to be assembled in 2012 and the first cars are to be delivered in February. Six special Volkswagen passenger car dealers from Indonesia will present the cars to potential customers such as insurance companies, banks, public authorities and branch offices of European enterprises.

Garuda Mataram Motor is also responsible for sales activities. The vehicles will be sold via six special Volkswagen passenger car dealers in Indonesia. Additionally the T5s will be presented to potential customers such as public authorities, banks, insurance companies and branch offices of European enterprises. The T5 will also be on display at the Indonesia Motor Show.

We view our competitive prospects very positively,” claimed Harald Schomburg, Member of the Brand Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for Sales and Marketing.

The acronym SKD stands for “Semi Knocked Down” and denotes vehicles which are partially disassembled. In the case of the T5 for the Indonesian market, this means that Transporters and Multivans are taken by truck from the main plant in Hanover to the CKD/SKD Center in Bissendorf / Wedemark, about 16 km away. There, they are partially disassembled. The SKD kits are then transported via Hamburg to Jakarta by freighter. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ partner on the spot, Indomobil/Garuda Mataram Motor, then imports and pays duty on the Transporter and Multivan kits before reassembling them on site.
