4. If you don't drive too far to school and other activities you may be eligible for a discount on your car insurance. They make this decision on the premise that the less time you spend on the road, the less likely you are to be involved in an accident.
6. One other thing that affects your ability to receive affordable car insurance as a student is the age of your car. The older your car the more expensive it will be to insure and some insurance companies require you to have the car looked at by their mechanic if it is over a certain age. So if your dad decided to give you his old car while getting a newer car for himself you may want to talk him out of it and let him instead give you the newer car especially if this is the only thing that would qualify you for a student discount.
