Prior to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Bmw unveiled today the all-new 2012 M6 Coupe and Convertible models and as expected the cars are powered by the high-revving 4.4-liter V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology found also on the 2012 M5. The engine delivers the highest output in the segment: 412 kW/560 hp at 6,000 – 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) from 1,500 rpm. This means that the new M6 is with 10% more powerful than the previous model. With those numbers, the 2012 M6 Coupe is able to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, while the M6 Convertible is able to hit the same speed in 4.3 seconds. The sprint from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in made in 12.6 seconds by the Coupe and in 13.1 seconds by the Convertible, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h or 155 mph in both cases.

For those who want more, the M Driver’s Package is available and the cars will be able to hit a top speed of 305 km/h or 189 mph. Still, Bmw says that the new M6 is kinda fuel efficient with an average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 9.9 litres per 100 km / 28.5 mpg imp (BMW M6 Coupe) and 10.3 litres per 100 km / 27.4 mpg imp (BMW M6 Convertible). Auto Start-Stop function and further Efficient Dynamics technology as standard and according to Bmw, fuel consumption on the new M6 is cut by more than 30 percent. The engine is mated to a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Driverlogic, but sources confirmed the fact that the new M6 will also receive a six-speed manual gearbox. The power of the engine is sent to the rear wheels using the Active M Differential.

Regarding the design, the M6 Coupe and Convertible feature a new M kidney grille with black double slats, new flared wheel arches, hallmark M gills with integrated direction indicator bars, new aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors and side skirts, a pair of exposed reflectors below the tail lamps, a new aerodynamically optimised rear apron with diffuser between the right and left-hand pair of twin exhaust tailpipes and the well-known 19-inch forged M light-alloy wheels (20-inch wheels are available as an option). The M6 Coupe also receives a new stylish carbon fiber roof. At the interior, we find a new M double-spoke leather steering wheel, new M gear selector and car set-up controls on the model-specific centre console and exclusive M sports seats with integrated belt system (optional: M multifunction seats). As expected, all the options available on the 6-Series can also be ordered on the M6, such as Comfort Access, active seats, heated steering wheel, doors with Soft Close Automatic function, Navigation system Professional, Bang & Olufsen High- End Surround Sound System.
