The world automobile industry has come a long way as far as production practices are concerned and these practices are further innovated and evolved with the cutting edge technology. Let’s have a look at the Top 5 best Fastest Production Cars.

Jaguar XK120

British marque’s first post-Second World War model saw the light of the day back in 1948 when it was launched at the London Motor Show to test the waters of automobile market and to know the pulse of public regarding this new launch. It became an instant hit and went into production.

Thanks to top speed of 120 mph or 193 kph, this car went on a spree of breaking record at the racing scenes at the Autodrome de Montlhéry, near Paris. The records were 172.94kph for 24 hours, 212.16kph for one hour, and 161.43kph for seven days and seven nights.

Ferrari F40

Italians are of the view that “Anything Porsche can do, Ferrari can do better”. Back in mid-Eighties Italians and Germans locked horns on the top-speed front, and as a result 288 GTO from Ferrari set world records and was beaten by none other than Porsche 959. It was Ferrari’s turn to strike and it came up with The F40, which got the distinction of being the production car to break the 200mph (320kph) barrier. This car was named after in the honor of Prancing Horse’s 40th anniversary and also was last car produced before Enzo Ferrari’s death.

Jaguar XJ220

This car was the brainchild of Saturday Club, an informal group at Jaguar HQs. This group used to work on weekends to take care of the unofficial projects. Jim Randle, a member of the Saturday club was hell bent on making a car that could exceed 320kph and was given a go ahead by executives; the car was scheduled to be launched at the 1988 British Motor Show. The production witnessed some departures form the original concepts as V12 engine became a V6, resulting in a below expected sale of 281 cars.

McLaren F1

The car owes its design to Gordon Murray who had already established hiss credentials with the design of McLaren Formula One race car. The car in question went on to become fastest road car with it speed touching 386kph mark and held that record for long 16 years only to be broken later by the Koenigsegg CCR. Given the fact that it took production guys a time period of three-and-a-half months to make this car, mass production was out of the question.

SSC Ultimate Aero

Once a replica car maker, Jerrod Shelby, chased his dream for 7 long years to come up with his own company Shelby SuperCars and his car SSC Ultimate Aero kept the record of fastest production car with speed of 412.28kph and was bested by Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Aero II is still in the works, and is designed to bring the record back to its name.
